There’s a mummy in the museum in Newcastle and you can see all of her (skin etc) and I just had to say I’m sorry to her as she was on show! We shouldn’t have to see that. She isn’t resting imo

my fav best preserved mummy is the 15 yr old inca girl that was used as a religious sacrifice. she was found in the side of a frozen mountain and literally looks like she could come alive any second

There’s a baby preserved in gold in Cairo, Egypt. That one really broke my heart. To be so important to someone to be coated in gold, just to be in a glass case thousands of years later. 💔

Got lost at the king Tut exhibit as a child, the security guard let me look at his mummy all by myself and it smelled so weird. but what a special memory i hold forever about it

The first time I saw a mummy in my museum I busted into tears and said “this isn’t where they thought they were going to end up, be stared at by people who don’t care”

There's two mummies at the museum I work at. Last time they were out was in 2017. Seeing them in their storage room is always surreal. Just laying there, in their boxes on the shelf 🙁

I studied art history in college and the focus of my studies was the ethics of displaying human remains in art/cultural museum settings with an emphasis on portrait mummies. Thanks for this video 💕

It’s always so surreal to go into mummy exhibits, just to think that there’s literally the corpse of somebody who once breathed and laughed and loved is crazy 😭 Also it always smells so dank

i think of the fawn princess from mammoth cave kentucky a lot. she was preserved in the cave but once removed and paraded around she slowly disintegrated😭 as a kentuckian it breaks my heart.

I’m not super educated on it but I do know that other cultures liked to have their dead displayed in respectful ways to honor them. There’s a whole civilization that displays their mummies on a mountain side next to their village. I do think it’s a shame that so many have been taken from their final resting places tho.

I went to a museum for a school project and realised the mummy they had as their prize exhibit was my age when they died, and suddenly it felt wrong. not sure why that moment was it but it was.

I did my dissertation on these amazing mummies the national museum in Ireland allowed me to get close to them. It was so amazing to peak into the past of these people 💖
