I think that, at least right now, the best place for AI in coding is creating skeletons for my code. Fill out all the tedious boilerplate stuff, and I’ll write the actual code

You’re supposed to be using for extremely pattern based stuff, not actually building new functionality

This logic only applies if your code is already better than most probable statistically code.

does he explain *why* copilot does this? because it's true but i can't actually describe the pattern of behavior

I use AI as glorified advanced documentation look up that’s all it’s good for

The most high critical uncatched bugs I pushed to production and only found in production are mostly from copilot —>

My problem with AI, that it never says.."i have no clue."
It will always generate some code.
And finetuning input (prompt engineering) takes the whole day.

Idk. I've been really impressed with codestral. Easily the best I've used so far.

I use copilot to help me with some bash scripts cause I don't remember everything out of the top of my head and even so still worst than stack overflow where content is curated

don't ask copilot to write real code, ask it to do busy work. It's great at converting some information from one format to another and/or repeating a specific structure.

Ai is cool but.. It's just that, for now at least.

Yeah, I've been trying to use AI to help me with my work (writing and research) and I end up spending more time fact checking, validating, and correcting it than any time it saves me.

I don’t know why you would expect production-ready code from co-pilot. That’s not what it is for. It’s your assistant, not your replacement.

It's fine, what could possibly go wrong just using random snippets of code that got posted to stack overflow?

this is facts. hopefully they at least exclude stackoverflow questions from the training data... so much buggy code posted to forums

let me tell you something. you are just stating facts. you have to be ruthless. I had to drop AI too. My time will be saved by reading docs from start to finish.

Hmm, that’s not how AI works. The peak of the distribution is not around the most probable code but around the one that will most likely satisfy your definition of “good code” by the definition of the loss function. Current AI still didn’t crack it right, but it keeps improving.
