HOW I TRAINED FOR MY FIRST HYROX Context: This was a last-minute side quest that I decided to take on just a month before the event! I really wanted to participate in at least one HYROX race this year, but the other races didn’t fit my schedule. So, I signed up for the one that coincidentally fell on the same dates as a brand trip to SG! Given the limited time, I had to adjust my expectations and race goals. I decided to do the doubles event with Enjay, aiming to finish as fast as possible without needing to significantly alter my current marathon training plan. 1. Running Weekly distances: 30km, 45km, 55km, 62km  Since I was already in a marathon training block, I ran more than what might be necessary for HYROX training. If your goal is just to finish, running anywhere from 20-50km/week should be enough! 2. Strength & Conditioning  I kept up with my usual compound exercises to supplement my running. Key movements included squats, deadlifts, presses, pulls, unilateral exercises, and core work. These helped me maintain strength and helped me stay injury-free while transitioning between running and HYROX prep. 3. HYROX Simulations I downloaded a plan by @woodsyworkout which included HYROX simulations I followed weekly. This plan was so helpful since it also provided tips on proper technique for each station. I managed to do two simulation sessions at Lokal Active, and the rest were done at my AF gym. Here’s how a week of training looked like: 4-5 runs per week (1 easy, 1 tempo, 1 interval, 1 LSD) 2 strength & conditioning days 1 HYROX simulation Despite the short prep, training was both fun and manageable! After I finish my marathon block, I definitely want to run a full training block specifically for HYROX. Now I just need to find the next race to sign up for! These Deviate Nitro 3s from @Puma Philippines were my favorite to use for race sims! So grippy!!
