These are just some of the many comments that pour in of I use an exercise without a PubMed citation attached The internet has given us access to an incredible amount of information, but it’s also created an endless cycle of paralysis by analysis. When I first started training, we learned from our favorite bodybuilders, people in the gym who had achieved what we wanted to achieve and plenty of trial and error. Research has certainly improved our understanding of training, but somewhere along the way, people became obsessed with finding an unachievable “optimal.” Sometimes I choose an exercise because I like it. Maybe it feels better, maybe I enjoy the challenge, or maybe it’s something I’ve been doing for 20 years. Could another variation theoretically be better? Sure. But it’s my training and I genuinely enjoy doing it, which is why I’ve been able to be consistent for 25 years There’s no perfect exercise or perfect program. And while you’re endlessly searching for one, plenty of people are getting great results doing supposedly suboptimal things. That philosophy is part of what went into Strength X Speed, my comprehensive 12 week hybrid program built around exactly how I train. Sprinting, jumping, traditional strength training, hypertrophy, and aerobic conditioning, all organized for people who want to build muscle, get stronger, improve their athleticism, and actually enjoy training. It also includes a section on the nutritional approach I’m currently following. Link in my bio. #strengthandconditioning #sprinting #jumptraining #armtraining #athletictraining
