Scientists believe this happens because your brain sees walking through a doorway as a signal to start thinking about something new, like you're entering a new scene in the story. As such, we tend to forget important, top-of-mind thoughts when we pass through any sort boundary, whether physical or metaphorical. Also called portal amnesia and it can happen when you turn on your phone, open the fridge or get into a car just as easily as when passing through doors. Subconsciously signaling your brain that a new chapter has started, it kinda hits the reset button on your thoughts, and sometimes, makes you forget what you were originally planning to do.
