Trigger warning: Here are some toxic honesty terms maybe you've heard.
Trigger warning: Here are some toxic honesty terms maybe you've heard. "Look, I'm just going to say it...you're very overweight for your age." "You should give up on that. It's clearly not for you." "Gotta be honest here...you'll never get (partner, job, degree), and maybe you should lower your standards." "I just don't want you to think you'll get there with your body type...and end up disappointed. Someone has to say it…" In my case, "Well...you'll never be a singer." My mother would casually say this whenever she heard me singing Purple Rain or Separate Ways. The memory stuck because it caused intense shame and was really effective in me not feeling good about singing. The jokes on her as I later got a BA in music, sang in chamber ensembles, and went on to write and lead a band with some local success. Ka chow😎 The worst part of this level of honesty is that our inner child is already a poor lawyer for themselves and takes that "honesty" in. These become deep creative wounds. So why does the toxic family do this? Is it that noble? No, it's about them, and they make it personal. I find that the toxic family or parent is both miserable and superior. A trait of a toxic family is not to want others to succeed because then they lose some power, like in a zero-sum game. On the one hand, if I were a naturally gifted singer, my mother would take credit for it, but not being one, she could take credit for "calling it like it is," which in reality is just wanting to look like the voice of reason. But, on the other hand, doing kids a favor is just an excuse to be abusive. Healthy parents understand two things. First, helping a child have a process of developing their interests and also protecting them from unnecessary criticism. They help their kids emotionally with insecurities instead of putting much effort into solidifying them. What do you think? Follow for more education on childhood trauma. Share this if you would like to raise awareness. See more of my content on YT. #honesty #weaponized #childhoodtrauma #innerchild #artisticwounds #toxicfamily #toxicparent
