It only took 5 minutes...👇👇👇 Two weeks ago, our world just stopped. Our sweet boy was critically injured in the line of duty. Nothing else mattered except doing everything in our power to save his life. Bear is our 3 year old Livestock Guardian Dog and a beloved member of our family. This boy has our hearts, and to know him is to love him. He has the biggest heart, is goofy, playful, and unwavering in his defense of his animals. He is an essential part of our family and farm. What happened... We got home from a horse show, and as we pulled into the barn yard, we were greeted by his smiling, happy face. He quickly returned to the shade of the barn to keep an eye on his goats and their babies. We checked on another doe who was due to give birth, but there were no signs of impending labor. We filled up their hay and water, gave him some scratches, and were going to go eat some lunch. The last time I saw him, he was curling up in the doorway of the barn, beside the birthing stall... 5 minutes later, we were frantically searching him over for injuries and rushing him to the nearest emergency vet hospital. The coyotes and wolves have been boldly coming in the middle of the day lately. We lost our sweet Guinea, Buddy, the other week and were devastated. Bear takes his job seriously. He did his job of protecting his animals like usual and chased the coyote/ wolf away when it tried to breach the fence line at the goat paddock. We didn't see what happened next. He calmly returned to the barn. He was in shock. He had a small cut on his chin, a sore leg (but he let us touch it and made no reactions). There were no other visible injuries, but we didn't want to take any chances. It took us 30 minutes to get to the emergency vet hospital. He walked in totally fine, and for a second, we thought we may have overreacted... little did we know, we arrived right in the nick of time, because minutes later he was in life-threatening condition...
