@develobaby: It is quite normal for babies to fall asleep and be comforted more easily when they are rocked. The up-and-down (bouncing) and back-and-forth movements are particularly soothing, as they stimulate one of the primary senses—the vestibular sense. However, some babies are so “sensory hungry” that they need movement for a long time, perhaps even as an absolute prerequisite for falling asleep or staying asleep. If this is the case, you can of course just choose to continue bouncing and rocking your baby around bedtime. Being “sensory hungry” is not dangerous or worrying. If everyone enjoys the rocking and bouncing, then all is well. Alternatively, you can choose to do cozy sensory stimulation exercises with your baby during the day. These exercises aim to spread the need for sensory stimulation throughout the day, gradually satisfying the senses so there is less need for stimulation at bedtime. You’ll find these cozy and easy-to-do exercises, along with plenty of good advice for baby sleep, in my exercise program “DeveloBaby - Sleep”.
