Our Dr said “everyday you don’t have her on her meds - you are shredding her self esteem”.

Son’s dad would take him off cold turkey, let his sleep schedule flip and then would complain he didn’t listen. Drove me insane

My son always needs his meds but before he drove I’d take him off in summer so he could put weight on

As a teacher w ADHD it kills me when parents say they don't like what medication does to their kid--how does your KID feel? Ppl tell me my meds make me a zombie but its bc my brain finally shuts up!

This also applies to weekends! It takes days to build it up in your system. When you stop for a couple days you lose that progress. So you're only getting 2-3 days a week of use out of the meds.

I have ADHD and I see a difference if I forget one dose. It feels like my brain isn’t working right.

I would medicate during summer but due to shortages I have to save it for school I have only been able to feel 2 prescriptions all year 😭

I had a student that would be in tears when his mom forgot to give him his medicine because he could feel the difference. It was sad to see 😭

His pediatrician says to stop them over the summer to let him grow. Is there truth in this?

completely agree, also.. is it wild to suggest that you ask the child how they feel on/off medication??

I would.medicate during the summer, but trying to get an already underweight kid to eat is the only way we can do it.

it is hard to regulate a child with attention issues, do whats best for your child but also do your own research💕

My question with this always is would you stop your child’s insulin for diabetes for the summer. If the answer is no than it applies here too.

I lower the dose in the summer, our personal goal is to not need the medication one day. It's not for every child but this works for us.

my parents used to take me off in the summer then expected me to act the same and keep in mind lists of chores... then they yelled for forgetting things and bouncing off the walls 😭 unless you're 1/2

I worked at a camp and how many parents would do “medication vacation” when their kids went to camp was so horrible to the child and the staff

We do not medicatie during summer but adjust our expectations. He's an only child and if all that's scheduled is play, it seems unnecessary. In group setting with lot of stimuli it's a different story
