@bathroomremodelingteachr: 💪 It is a much bigger challenge when you are only replacing a tub/shower & leaving existing walls in tact Most of the time in older homes the overall width of rough framing is much wider than the actual tub The most common width size of a tub is 60" In this scenario we had plaster & drywall as the existing outside walls The rough opening size for this bathroom was 61 1/4" This does make it a bit easier to set the tub 😃 The easiest way to set a new tub in an existing space is to leave and/or cut out framing at the edge of the tub rim area This allows for the tub to be able to slide into wall cavity area so you can angle and position the tub into place Once tub is set in place, evaluate the levelness of tub Anything within a 1/4" within the 5ft wide span is acceptable Two ways to overcome a significant unlevel tub floor area 1. Floor level the tub area 2. Set tub in a mortar bed Mix to a thick consistency In this video I had a fairly level floor and was installing a tub that does NOT require mortar. It must be difficult to renovate old homes because they walls, floors & ceilings aren’t perfectly level or flat anymore.

I’m no contractor but I’ve done a tub or 2, it’s cleaner to run the tile under the tub and doesn’t cost that much more, also I set my tubs in mortar for extra support.

Just did this yesterday the client had preframed everything in with green board so I had to open it a bit on the back and the front adding a new valve. It’s a surround so we are gonna make it work

Seems like you would’ve measured the opening before you put the tub in there. Just saying.

So, 2 questions. No Vapor barrier on the exterior walls? And, no mortar bed or spray foam under the tub?
