a reminder for those of you who may be struggling with self image after significant weight gain/loss and/or pregnancy. I too struggled with this SIGNIFICANTLY in my third trimester with my first child, and for more than a year post partum. I believed that I would always be ashamed of my stretch marks and that because my body was permanently changed I would hate that part of me. But that simply isn’t true. We paint an ideal image of ourselves based on what we see in others, both in person and online and when we don’t measure up we hyper focus and even stress over physical changes that are often times beyond our control. When I shared an image of myself with stretch marks over 3 years ago here on Instagram, expressing how much I was struggling with body image, I remember people telling me “you BIRTHED LIFE!!” “You have those tiger marks as a reward and reminder of what your body did” … “you stretched to grow and being new beautiful things in your life”, “you earned those! Be proud!”. I remember feeling no less discouraged and like I would never appreciate my marks. Over time I started to accept them and come to terms with them, and now I literally could care less that they are there, I haven’t thought once during this pregnancy about the fact that I may get new stretch marks or that my body will change once again (in a negative way). I’m saying all of this to say that beauty really is in the eyes of the beholder. If you base your definition of beauty on what others will think of you instead of what you think of you (continually working to build a perspective of how God sees you), you will never fail to find more and more flaws about yourself. This post won’t cure your body image challenges, but hopefully it plants a seed in your mind that beauty is whatever you define it to be, and shouldn’t be confined to what your body looks like or how it has changed. If no one has told you today; you are beautiful and capable of wonderful things. Love you 🫶🏽 took this beautiful visual idea from @jayciesdiary #mindsetshift #motivation #reminder #bodyimage #bodypositive #bodypositivity #unfiltered #selflove #selfacceptance #insecurities #stretchmarks
