If you're ever trapped in a rip current, stay as calm as possible & swim horizontally until you feel way less of a pull. Breaststroke is the best,since you can keep head above water & strong kicks.

Got caught in a rip current when I was 16. My grandmas voice in my head tell me to swim hard parallel to the beach. Scary.

my dad almost died in a rip current in Florida in 1987. He said he never fought so hard for his life. The ocean kept pulling him farther and farther from shore over a mile out.

When I was younger me and my cousin were swimming at the beach and we heard our families screaming for us. When we got back to shore they hugged us and told us it was a rip current but idrk what that

just swim parallel to the beach and find a place without a rip current, it happened to me and my dad many times because we swim in the see for long distance every year

I learned from an EMT if you see a calm area sometimes large in between regular waves and it’s just going out peacefully that is a rip tide do not go in the water there!!

do NOT swim to the side if caught in a riptide. let it pull you. don’t fight. just float. swim back to shore once it’s taken you to where it ends

As a little girl I got stuck in rip currents countless times, I never fought it or swam parallel I let it take me out to sea til it dissipated & tread water for about 30 minutes once, don’t fight it.

lifeguard here! just go with the rip and don’t panick! escape routes are on both sides so once you don’t feel it pulling anymore, swim parallel to the shore and then in!
