@lauren_larusso: ❤️‍🔥I wouldn’t wish an affair on, or for, anyone; and I wouldn’t wish the fall-out from an affair on my worst enemy. I’ll set that record straight as often as helps. But I specialize in affairs because they’re happening, and someone needs to dive in to the reality of them and help shed light on the sources, shame, secrecy, and stigma that shrouds them. That’s what I do. It can be confusing — does explaining affairs, or giving insight into various dynamics, or providing advice and support to those who are affected by or involved in an affair mean you’re FOR AFFAIRS?! I’m not for affairs any more than I am for robbing a bank. But as a counselor, I’m here to work with everyone at the bank robbery — the traumatized bank teller, the people who helped the robber, and the robber themselves. It’s not a perfect analogy, but you get the point. Being a voice for something largely voiceless but widely experienced is a complex role to take on. Every day I navigate the intricacies of what it means to speak about something so sensitive and significant. I wish we lived in a world without affairs. Where we all lived in alignment, in authenticity, in interpersonal safety, in clarity, in an unwillingness to be an agent of hurt (not just in having an affair; but in all of the ways we hurt each other through our words, behaviors, choices). But we don’t. I’m dedicated to creating a space that speaks to all sides and all aspects of infidelity, in the hope of supporting everyone who is suffering, alone, or struggling.
