@newbuild_newlyweds: 🚨 READ CAPTION 🚨The floors are not hardwood, they are Pine, which is a softwood. We had a professional come over and check them out for us because we originally planned on refinishing. Pine floors tend to damage easily and wear down quicker than actual hardwood. This floor is so damaged and not salvageable- it had water damage, A LOT of dents & staples, split planks and rotted soft spots. They’re also at the bottom of the wear layer, every floor has one. If it were to be sanded again (floors can only be sanded so many times, these have been here since 1939) the wear layer would be gone and the floors would be trashed. So we were not able to refinish them, which is why we covered them up 😊 Hopefully that answers your questions 🫶🏼 #woodfloors #refinishing #floorrefinishing #lvp #flooretmodin #flooret #lvpflooring #homereno #renovation #homerenovation

Couldn’t you just stain the old oak floors?

Redid my 109 year old floor, douglas fir (softwood) and they had everything you said in your caption. It's hard, careful work but it looks beautiful with original flooring. Ur new floor looks good too

fun fact! now we as people prefer a wider plank but 100+ years ago the fancier the house the smaller the plank. it cost a lot more money to buy and install a bunch of small planks versus way less larger planks!

I’ve read about not covering up wood. Some say it traps moisture and such. What’s your thoughts on that. I want to cover mine but it’s engineered wood that can’t be sanded

Ugh….rarely do I criticize, but you should have refinished the hardwood floors instead of putting down those new floors. Don’t hate me.

No!!!! Just sand the original hardwood. You should never cover up that beautiful wood. Crazy to do that.
