@alex_hochestetla: Peter was found abandoned and on the brink of death, with no access to food or water and the hot summer heat was literally killing him. He was so weak when rescuers found him he could not stand or even raise his head. He was locked inside and left to die by human neglect, which is absolutely unimaginable. On top of his severe starvation and dehydration, he has canine distemper. Distemper is a highly contagious, difficult to treat, and often fatal disease. Despite us vaccinating every dog that we can, these neglected and abused dogs are still affected by the distemper epidemic. Dogs like Peter are particularly susceptible to distemper, and generally have a very small chance of survival, if left untreated. Luckily we found Peter just in time, literally, if even one more day had passed being locked in that sweltering room he would have died. He made it through the respiratory and gastrointestinal phase and is now trying to recover from the effects of the neurological phase, with paralysis and weakness in his back legs. He has a long road ahead of him before he can walk again, which will require vet visits and physical therapy. He cannot win this fight by himself, he needs your help.
