The Yungang Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features caves and ancient stone sculptures over 1,600 years old and attracted over three million visitors last year, according to SCMP. A staff member explained that the timers were installed to reduce long waiting times due to the growing number of tourists and limited bathrooms. These timers do not set a time limit but show if a stall is occupied and how long someone has been inside. When occupied, the timer turns red and starts counting. When vacant, it turns green.
