@philosophyminis: The world is a cruel place. It's a violent circus of egoism, guile, cunning and brutality. It's a dog-eat-dog world where everybody is out for themselves. But this is not the whole story. It's also a world of families, community and sociability. It’s one where neighbours talk over fences, and strangers kick a ball around the field, and friends will roll dice and pretend to be warlocks. Peter #Kropotkin argued that kindness and community spirit were just as natural as any selfishness or egoism. Kropotkin was an #anarchist and he was taken with the idea of ‘survival of the fittest,’ but he couldn't understand why this was almost exclusively interpreted as being selfish, aggressive, and territorial. For Kropotkin, sociability is the greatest advantage in the struggle for life. The pack is strong. #Kindness pays off. #Community is fitness, and of all the species, we've got this mastered. If ‘sociability is a law of human nature,’ we have to ask questions about why we need governments at all. Kropotkin argued, that if you give people freedom and responsibility, they will turn to kindness, not selfishness. Evolution has given us a ‘mutual aid tendency,’ and so when we have centralized authorities, we obscure this. Humans are born to share, cooperate, and form communities. We have to learn to hate. Millions of years of evolution have taught us to work together harmoniously. So why do we insist on artificial #politics suppressing it? Kindness, sharing and sociability are in our DNA.
