@george.kamel: In 2023, outstanding credit card debt hit a record high of $1 trillion. And it’s spread out among 55 million households, with each household balance averaging over $14,000. That debt has become harder to pay off too, thanks to insane interest rates which, as of 2023, average 22%. #creditcards #markcuban #amex
If you pay them off every month you don’t pay any interest, and you get benefits

The problem isn’t credit cards. It’s people spending money they don’t have.

Why do they always hear credit cards and assume we’re in debt. Credit cards are useful

Credit cards are great as long as you maintain a zero balance and don’t get charged interest. Rewards and fraud protection are awesome!

So what I’ve gathered… it’s not that credit cards are an issue… it’s people not controlling their spending.. my family and I have 4 cc’s with over $60k in limits… we spend everything on them… and everything is paid off every month… my Amex cards just paid for a business class trip for my wife and myself to France for 2 weeks… so no I don’t agree lol… debit card gives me no benefits… and I risk my money being accessed whenever I swipe that card vs my cc’s who have protections and will handle that every time

Hey George, I totally agree with cutting up those credit cards! I used to be a huge fan of them too, always paying them off but somehow always increasing my limit - $1000, $3000, $5000, $7000! It’s so easy to spend more just because you have the limit. Now I stick to debit cards only. Thanks for the advice!

We use our credit cards and we pay them off in full every month. We never carry a balance. I have an 850 credit score. I am not cutting up my credit cards.

Counterpoint: never spend your own money if you don’t have to. Bank won’t fight fraud on your debit card much, but they’ll fight tooth and nail to get their own $$$ back for your credit card.

People with credit cards isn’t the problem, financial literacy is the problem. I got 40K in Credit limit, but I only use 1K a month for expenses like gas, and while doing this I make cash back

Cmon now mark, love u, but a lot of ppl need them to build credit. Pay off ur credit card in full every month and you sre better off than paying from ur debit. Didnt even mention cashback!

Or you just pay it off every month. We have 2. A business card and a personal. Both get payed off completely every month. Travel all over with the airline points. I was going to spend the money

Use your cards on gas and groceries and pay them off every month. We know we won’t get rich with points, but it’s nice to have an extra $200 or so.
