My mom and dad are originally from Cenotillo, Yucatán and they would tell us stories about the Cenotes. Belief is every Cenote has a “dueño.” And should be respected with offerings.

Only time I've been in a cenote in Cancun, our tour guide had a Mayan Priest do a prayer/ ritual before letting us go in. He said it was required if you wanted to participate. I felt peaceful once in.
