I heard cases where sometimes law enforcement follows behind emergency vehicles so they can nail people for this exact reason

6 years in fire and ems there’s actually a thing called due regard. Meaning if you are responding you have to drive with common sense. Many new drivers will come to a complete stop

To my understanding if an ambulance runs a red light even with lights on and gets into an accident the fault is still on the ambulance

If the opticom doesn’t work we legally are required to stop or slow at red lights and make sure it is clear before we run it. The sensors don’t always work.

We also stop at red lights to “clear an intersection.” We basically make sure that everyone sees us at an intersection and we avoid accidents.

You turn off lights at stops to not cause panic then you turn them back on if you’re behind traffic some states it’s not even required to pull over sadly it’s a courtesy
