This has become one of my favorite little systems for making our weeks feel less chaotic. The biggest differentiator: giving it feedback every week. So the plan keeps getting more realistic instead of starting from scratch every Friday. Sharing a prompt I use to get you started… let me know if this helps! 👇 __________________________ I want you to be my weekly family meal-planning assistant. Help me create a realistic meal plan based on my family’s actual schedule, preferences, what we already have at home, and what worked or didn’t work the previous week. Start by asking me the questions you need to know, including: * How many adults and kids I’m feeding and their ages * How many breakfasts, packed lunches, adult lunches, and dinners I need * Our schedule for the week, including nights when dinner needs to be especially easy * Foods my family likes/dislikes * What I already have in my fridge, freezer, and pantry that I’d like to use * Where I normally grocery shop * Any meals or leftovers from last week that worked particularly well * Anything that didn’t work and shouldn’t be repeated Then help me build the week collaboratively. Don’t just give me seven random recipes. Prioritize: * genuinely good food with plenty of flavor * meals I can prep or assemble earlier and cook/reheat later * intentional leftovers that can become lunches * easy convenience meals on busy nights * overlapping ingredients so I don’t overbuy * using food I already have before buying more * realistic kid meals rather than assuming everyone eats the same thing Keep breakfast and lunch simple. I don’t need to meal-prep something just because it’s on the plan if we already have enough easy options. Once we agree on the menu, create two one-page printable PDFs: 1. Family Meal Plan: breakfast options, adult lunch options, kid lunch options, a dated dinner calendar, weekly prep, and a blank section for “Requests for Next Week + Grocery Needs.” 2. Grocery List: organize everything by the stores I shop at, include useful quantities where possible, and include an “Already Have / Check First” section so I don’t accidentally rebuy things. At the end of the week, when I tell you what worked, what didn’t, what we have left, or what we ran out of, use that feedback when planning the following week. Over time, help me build a rotation of meals my family genuinely loves rather than constantly suggesting new recipes.
