@sheisapaigeturner: I think it’s incredibly important for new dads to do part of the overnight shift with their new baby. Often times, because men go back to work soon after having children, women will take on the bulk of the overnight responsibility. But this can create a dynamic where men miss out on the opportunity to bond with their child and learn about their child and it leaves mom the default caregiver. ##newbaby##newborn##babysleep##newmom##newdad##newparents##caregiving##dadlife
1 week old in my house - my wife gets baby from 9pm to 3am while I sleep. I get baby from 3am-9am while she sleeps. We both get a 6 hour sleep. This is our 4th baby, and this has always worked best.

People say "dad shouldn't be sleep deprived at work" as if being sleep deprived while taking care of a newborn is perfectly safe 💀

It’s way more work to take care of a baby all day than go to work. They don’t need more sleep than moms.

For SAHMs, the cycle is neverending! We do nights followed by the 14+ hour day and then into the night again

Sam. Needs. Help 🇺🇸 🆘 :
We did blocks. I went to bed early. Like 7-8pm and slept until 1am. Then my husband switched off to me. Getting that chunk really helped.

My husband did every single middle of the night diaper change so I could get ready to breastfeed and/or pump. It saved my sanity!

My hubby would get up 75% of the feeds with me to change the diaper, and then rub my feet or head while I nursed. It made me feel heard and not so lonely during those night feeds/pumps.

That doesn't work for most breastfeeding babies. But if babies aren't settling after a feed, they should definitely be helping.

It IRKS me when my husband says “I’m sooo tired” I always just give him the death stare. And he responds “sorry”

This makes total sense if the moms works as well. But for me since I stay home and exclusively breastfeed I have to be up either way. Makes no sense to me for both of us lose sleep when I have to

💯 👏Its like one parent is taking a Spanish class in high school and the other moved to Mexico and became fluent because of the immersion experience. This creates a significant rift between parents.

Yesss!! It especially helped my wife (csection) because she couldn’t lift our son. So I got him up, changed his diaper, handed him off for feeding, got him back to get him back to sleep.

I can’t believe that dads in this day and age are literally just sleeping through it. My son is 14 and his dad and I shared nights. Demand more.

A mom once asked me for advice on how to handle sleep deprivation as a new mom, I said swap off nights with the baby like me and my husband did and she told me she meant advice from competent women 😳

My husband did EVERY night with all 3 kids, including a set of twins. He said, “you do days, I do nights”… it worked for us.

My husband did overnights every night for the first six weeks. Now that he’s back at work he does overnights on his days off. Works great for us
