I’ve also heard that sometimes it’s the frustration/feelings of hopelessness due to no results by that point in time. Big opportunity for counseling improvement with SSRIs

My dad is literally a pharmacist and resisted me taking psych meds for a decade b/c of the black box warnings. Now I’m medicated and my GAD and MDD are finally manageable. Misinformation is crazy.

In nursing school they said ssris give you energy, and you only commit when you have energy. It takes a lot of energy to follow through with the act which for these pts they get from starting ssris

me idea is that it takes a while for ssris to fully kick in and pt might have the thoughts that we'll if even the meds didn't work then..

could it be because ssris affect brain plasticity? like yes the ideation is there, but ssris help our brain know those are negative thoughts, so the thought is never acted upon

Ur theory is good, I think also because when people are thinking about getting treated they have hope. When they start their meds and it’s not helping right away they lose hope and have increased SI

This makes sense, but on the other hand, soooo hard to study this association, right? It would all have to be retrospective because there is no way the IRB could ethically approve a clinical trial

When I got on my first AD, my therapist warned me that it could get worse in the beginning, esp because it feels intense as the meds wear off. I would remind myself that the feelings are real but if

from my experience I'll also say once the meds start working a little bit it makes it easier to talk honestly about what I'm thinking and feeling so if that's the same for other peopl (1)

Pharmacy student here, we were taught the same thing. Increased risk as SSRI’s are activating (mostly) and take a while for the actual antidepressant effect to kick in = more motivation but depressio
