SPQR I’m sure is for someone, but it’s not for me. Mary Beard is a fantastic historian and writer, but it seemed like she could not weave a story with that one.

I’m listening to SPQR b/c of Kist but it is VERY dry. I’m going to stick it out but reading more entertaining things in between.

Rise and Fall of the Dinos was amazeballs. The chapter on birds was a fave. SPQR was boring. Too chaotic and disjointed IMHO

The zone of interest is a great WW2 based novel. The language is striking snd can be quite difficult to psychologically digest but it’s still a great story and the 1st of the geopolitics books is good

ill never miss an opportunity to recommend The Once and Future Sex by Dr Eleanor Janega. I am an incredibly seasoned reader and this book is beyond anything else, it is in a league of its own.

As someone who studied history/classics, I’ve been trying to read SPQR for ages. It’s tough to get into, and you need some discipline. But I’ve heard it’s a great read if you can buckle down!

I didn't know for the longest time that "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" was considered historical fiction and not like a biography or something, but I still loved it.

I recently read Mary Beards Emperor of Rome and it’s much easier to read than SPQR - while both assume you already have a strong base knowledge, Emperor less so 😊 really want to read Rise and Fall!
