Food refusal is HARD. Having a game plan can help. You want to be on the same page as your partner and be very consistent with your boundaries and responses. 1️⃣ Stop crutches like screens and distractions. In the moment, you might think those videos, etc are helping you get more food in the child’s belly, but they almost always backfire and lead to less eating and more refusal over time. Wean those crutches now to give your child the best chance to explore foods and pay attention to their internal hunger and fullness cues. 2️⃣ Make mealtime fun and low pressure. Kids know very quickly whether an environment makes them feel good or stressed. If they have been experiencing consistent stress at the table, they won’t want to be there. We want them to choose to be there with us because the more they stay seated with us, the more likely they will be to decide to eat what you served. 3️⃣ Offer choices. Serve a few options at each meal, including some sprinkles or topping/dip options to make what's on the plate more appealing. Remember: Many toddlers go through a phase of pushing boundaries at the table, this does not automatically translate to picky eating. Picky eating is more prolonged and severe. If your child is struggling with maintaining their weight, will not eat whole categories of food, has very few foods they will consistently eat, or gags at the sight of food, they will likely benefit from picky eating strategies and may even need a referral to a local feeding specialist for additional evaluation. ➡️ For more help with food refusal, tap the link in bio and search “refusal”. 🤍 #SolidStarts #babyledweaning #babyledweaningideas #firstfoods #whatmybabyeats #babyfoodideas #6monthsold #babymilestones #100firstfoods #raisinglittles #healthybabyfood #babyledeating #blwinspiration #startingsolids #solidfood #6months #foodrefusal #pickyeating #toddlermeals #toddlertrouble #6monthsoldbaby #babyledfeeding #firstfood #feedingbaby
