i’m from kentucky but i live in london england and some tourists from pittsburgh asked if i was from london the other day … my accent is so unmistakably american but fellow Americans didn’t clock it

Sorry Liza, but as a Dutch person when I am going to a country where I don't speak the language, I always learn some basic sentences. First: Good morning (etc), Do you speak (German, English or Italian), because I unfortunately don't speak (their language). I never expect anyone to speak another language and am glued to Talking Translator or Google Translate. I am adjusting to other countries, not expecting them to them adjusting to me. The problem I'm seeing with many US Americans is they want the world accommodate to their needs and that started in their own country where the feel the client is king.

I’m from the US. Raised in NC. I was in Aruba and the people sitting beside me were German. They actually asked me if I was from Wales. My sister has been asked if she was Australia while she was in Europe (can’t remember where exactly). We’ve visited Germany and Austria several times. My husband and I have learned several phrases in German to at least try and communicate the basics.

The only problem I have with American tourists is the constant comparisons to home. Like we have water, we have ice, but we also have our own stuff and surely that’s the reason people travel!?

Im 🇪🇺:1. Europeans just generally dislike tourists, but you are right there are a lot of biases around 2.the European political landscape moving towards the right is not helping either

Reality check: Is not the accent. We identify US people beacuse they normally are overdressed or in sweats. And wearing a ton of make up, brittish do too, but is different.

Ahah I don't mind Americans they are like golden retrievers, they are very bubbly and joyful. It just that it can be felt as an agression when the excitement starts to invide someone personal space.

as a 7/11 worker in the middle of copenhagen i can say that the american tourists may be annoying but they're always nice in contrast to french or spanish ones who can be rude

Well, there’s Asian tourists but the move in bulks hopping on and off of buses very quickly and quietly. So… and there’s English people they are enclaved and drunk in All Inclusive Resorts.
