Do you know what you're seeing here?? ⬇️ (Important info for update meeting at the end of caption!) As we await details on the original recorder of this footage, its clear that we're witnessing a mine collapse in DRC. An estimated 40,000 youths working in the mines in southern and eastern Congo. Most of the youths are working in environments like this one: The "mine" is really a hole in the ground, no protections or support structures other than what can be carried in hand to the site. Corporations let this happen because it saves them money to not have to worry about worker safety or living wages. And when the mines collapse? Do these companies care? Fatalities and maimings, death and disability are common consequences of mine collapses like this, As the exact same tools as used to extract the minerals are used to rescue trapped comrades. This happens ALL. THE. TIME. . . . Our partners (L'association Comité Afro Europeen) in the Kolwezi region in southern DRC spearhead the Child Miner Rescue program by addressing some of the root causes that push children to see the mines as the only option. They pay for children's schooling, supervised the unschooled, and provide access to trades and training in masonry, electricity, and hairdressing. . . . Please SHARE and DONATE. This is yet another example of how the funds you contribute have an immediate and direct impact on saving lives and creating invaluable opportunities for folks in Congo. This Saturday we're having a Zoom session at 2pm EST with the director of this program, Dr. Constant, as well as with attorney Terry Collingswood, who is giving an update on the class action lawsuit his firm is bringing against big tech giants Apple, Tesla and more for their exploitation of these youths. REGISTER at tinyurl.com/techlawsuit so you can get all the updates and understand the impact your dollars have on the ground.
