@oo.tata: Day 180 Tahiti lamp by Ettore Sottsass, 1981 Here we have a suggestion for an everyday object, far from the rationalism and strict functionality with which it is usually associated. Ettore was part of the Memphis group that wanted to spread a playful, whimsical design. Mix&Match of exuberant patterns, explosive colours, intrepid asymmetries, and geometric shapes. Also a nice feature is that it has a movable light ideal for desk or end table use, as either a down or up light. It was supposed to be cheap and fun and ended up as a collectable design It highlights the form and creates a visual impact. The Tahiti lamp became one of the symbols of the postmodern design movement. It challenged traditional notions of what a lamp should look like and represented a broader cultural shift towards a more open, eclectic approach to design. Things to remember: Italian design, Memphis group, postmodern €1400 #memphis #postmodern #italiandesign #lamp
