@smileynanc: My suggested camera settings for lifestyle family photographers! Let's talk ahout aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. I’m a beginner and my camera is a Canon Rebel T7 with an 18-55mm lens. My aperture doesn’t go any lower than f3.5, is there another camera you would recommend that goes down to the f2.8 you mentioned?

As a photographer I found that 2.8 only good for one 1-2 people and they have to be on the same focal plane. F4 for 3above

Just an FYI the closer you are to your subject, the more shallow your dof. So if you shoot a 50mm at f2.8 and your subjects are 20ft away, you'll have about 8.5ft of dof and can get great focus! 😊

Are you able to explain metering? I’ve heard it mentioned a lot, but I’ve never really seen a lot of actual detailed information on it? All I know is that when I look at my meter through the viewfinde

this is great for anyone wanting to learn. but I would add how the lens you use affects your depth of field as well as your distance to and from your subjects.

Hey Nancy, would you recommend keeping your ISO in auto for outdoor portrait shots when constantly moving locations? I am having difficulty in lightroom to edits large batches of photos. I find the lighting changes too much when I do it manually and it makes editing that much more difficult.

Aperture controls the amount of light you let in. Realistically settings are based on lighting conditions. There is no one setting to use based on number of people.
