📍 Al Baraka – Brookhurst St, Little Arabia, Anaheim 🇵🇸Palestinian Cuisine. The food of Palestine.  The parking lot smells like hookah smoke, detergent from the laundromat, and maybe a side hustle happening out of a trunk two spaces  over. Inside: Al Baraka. A Palestinian restaurant that, for some reason, feels like home. Not because they know me — they don’t. They’ve never asked my name. But because the food eats like it was passed down through ten different grandmothers, each one adding her own layer of stubborn love. Hummus – They drown it in olive oil like they’re trying to fix me medically. Then they throw garbanzos on top, just in case I was planning on leaving with dignity. Tabbouleh – A mountain of parsley chopped into submission. Lemon sharp enough to cut through whatever’s left of my optimism. Mansaf – Lamb and rice under a tangy yogurt sauce. I hated lamb as a kid thanks to cartoons. Here, the yogurt makes it feel like I’m feeding the lamb before feeding myself, which is dark… but also delicious. Mnazat Eggplant – It’s the eggplant dish that tastes like smoke and memory. Heavy enough that my stomach filed for tenant rights. Baba Ghanouj – If hummus is the reliable older sibling, this is the one who left town, came back mysterious, and now everyone secretly likes them more. Fateer Jibneh – A buttery cheese pastry that’s basically edible therapy. Except it actually works. Friday night. 7pm. The place was empty. And that’s the part that kills me. Because this isn’t just food. It’s survival disguised as dinner. So here I am, hunched over plates with my phone, oil on my lens, posting for strangers who scroll past in under three seconds. But if even one of you ends up here, if one person eats this food, then maybe all of that embarrassment is worth it. El Condor Certified.
