I would always try and tel me ex so calmly “Hey, your flirt comment to that girl on FB felt a bit disrespectful and it hurt my feelings” and next thing you know it’s 3 hours later and I’m crying.

Agreed. As long as the approach is respectful, it should be a mutual conversation. Though, not all "conversations" are started this way. Coming off passive aggressive isn't the way to go.
