this matter makes me happy and sad at the same time. recycling is good, but mostly elderly people going from bin to bin since the pension is not enough, makes me sad.

In bigger towns we have special bins with a shelf underneath. You can leave your bottle there and the homeless doesnt have to dig in the waste..

As you’ve seen from the other comments they get paid and when I was a young lad, it used to happen here in the UK as well take back your glass bottle and you’ll get 10p

Not just Germany, in eu shops will give you money back for them, but I do know Germany have vending machines that give you money back for them aswell
