Setting up a grow tent and hydroponic deep water culture in our basement for winter vegetables. Around this time, we plan our garden for indoor growing and our usual setup involves a grow tent, grow lights and hydroponic systems. If you’re curious about how to set up a grow tent, here’s what you need to know. WHAT IS A GROW TENT AND WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SET GET STARTED Grow tents are used to create a controlled environment for growing the best plants indoors. It allows you to grow all sorts of plants anytime of the year without worrying about the weather. Grow tents come in various sizes which can fit all types of spaces. You will need a grow light which will produce enough light from seedling to flower and fruit stages. Lastly, fans or exhaust systems will provide airflow. We got our 8x8 grow tent and equipment from @Spider Farmer LED and with this, we are maximizing our space to grow over 100 plants. We are going with a Kratky hydroponics method and deep-water culture hydroponics. For each container we can grow between 6-12 plants. This tent is spacious enough to move around and with the 8ft ceiling, we can grow taller plants like tomatoes or even dwarf fruit trees. We also utilized the space vertically by adding 2 plant stands. Each stand came with three SF600 LED grow lights from SpiderFarmer. Grow tents have a bottom ventilation, but moisture can still build up so we included an intake fan for air circulation. Without proper ventilation and air movement, humidity and moisture can build up. WHAT WE PLANT TO GROW? For the winter, we plan to grow everything in hydroponics which is PEST-FREE. We usually start with fast growing crops that don’t take up much room like lettuce, mizuna, bok choy, spinach, radish, and herbs. For bigger plants, we will be growing squash, kale, cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, celery and more. WHAT’S NEXT? We will continue to provide you with updates and tutorials on how you can grow food indoors. Keep going, keep growing!
