This is the thing: it's not that doctors don't have valid reasons to strike — they do. But holding their patients to ransom in order to get a pay rise crosses a line. By withdrawing care, they are inadvertently harming the very people they swore to protect, which goes against the Hippocratic Oath. Imagine you ran a dog shelter. You're underpaid and frustrated, so you decide to stop feeding the dogs until your salary is increased. Who suffers? The dogs — not the people responsible for your pay. It’s the same with disruptive protests. Some causes may be just, but blocking roads and stopping ambulances puts lives at risk. When train workers strike, it’s not politicians who suffer — it’s students who miss exams and workers who can’t get to work. In the case of doctors, the ones most affected are patients — especially the vulnerable, the elderly, the sick, and the dying. These people rely on you. You're not hurting MPs or ministers — you're hurting your patients. There *are* other ways to push for better pay and working conditions that don’t compromise patient care. Striking in a way that endangers lives isn't noble — it's irresponsible. Shame on those who forget the duty they pledged to uphold.
