Glenveagh Castle in the autumn 🍂🍁🏰 pov: you inherit a castle in Ireland 🏰 Not actually up for inheritance… this is Glenveagh Castle! Located in Glenveagh National Park, this castle has some of the most gorgeous autumnal scenery and is situated right on the water, Lough Beagh. But it’s got a bit of a rocky past. Glenveagh Castle was built between 1867-1873 and owned by Captain John George Adair, a man who notoriously evicted 224 tenants (in 1861) from the land during his ownership. His wife however, who was much loved in the area, and after his passing, improved relations. Eventually, Harvard University Professor Arthur Kingsley Porter purchased Glenveagh Castle and the surrounding property from the Adair estate in 1929. But! The Professor went missing mysteriously upon a trip to Inishbofin Island in 1933. The last owner was  Henry Plumer McIlhenny of Philadelphia. McIlhenny was a friend and former student of Porter’s at Harvard University. And he left the castle to Ireland in the 1970s so that the national park could be created. And there you have it, a relatively short history of Glenveagh Castle! 🏰 *PS. While I’d love to perhaps inherit a castle in real life, it’s not quite looking like it’s on the cards. However, I have been looking into castles for sale online and I must say, it’s a very dreamy pastime. 📍Glenveagh Castle, County Donegal, Ireland @Tourism Ireland #FillYourHeartWithIreland #ireland #autumnaesthetic #autumn #irelandtravel #bucketlisttravel #uktravelblogger #magicallytravelling best places to visit in ireland #princessaesthetic princess aesthetic, dark academia aesthetic, where to go in ireland, castles in ireland #YesIreland #irelandcastlecrawl #visitireland castles in ireland, autumn in ireland #darkacademia #darkacademiaaesthetic #irelandtravel #bucketlisttravel #cottagecoreaesthetic #darkaesthetic #cottagecore #countryliving #darkcottagecore Irish castles, castles in ireland, best castles in ireland, where to visit in ireland, Irish castles to visit, ireland castles #magicallytravelling best forests in ireland, where to go in ireland, ireland travel guide, visiting ireland, travel guide #fairytaletravel best places to visit in ireland, magical spots in ireland @Son de Flor ✨
