You could literally already have this homebrewed into your game.... I think WotC just has a full time reddit or on staff feeding them ideas that people already use and they just make them official

Xandathar's Guide had a whole chapter on more uses of tools. This seems to just fill in the gaps that DMs could have extrapolated themselves

I hope it isn’t Roll a D6 to start a fire, roll a D10 to refine the ingot into a sword shape, ect. Instead for crafting have me do monster hunter style where I can imbue traits and attributes to items

the fact that crafting rules didn't come core in 5e is one of the reasons I went back to 3.X/Pathfinder years ago.
