paying of early for people like me, age 70+, might make sense as your kids gets the house&they don't have to refinance at 7.5%.

I mean if I'm shaving 10 years off a 15 or 30 year mortgage due to extra payments, who's to say what the interest rates are afterward?

How is it a bad idea if someone is approaching their mid 50s and not financially ready for retirement? Isn’t a mortgage free home 1 step closer and long term security?

Is it better to buy a house or rent a house. Is it better to just buy rentals and rent a house for now until one can comfortably afford to buy a house?

15 year mortgages if you can afford the payment saves higher sums of interest over a 30 year. And paying extra shaves the loan down as well.

I mean, if you REALLY want to throw money at the mortgage in a rising rate environment, ok! But…still need to see that opportunity cost…ALWAYS!

i am planning on leaving my house to my son. it has a low Int loan. Not sure if slowly paying of the loan by paying double P is better for him or investing that extra into the S&P 500. SP the best?
