Traditionally, 1 foot jumping is split into speed and power jumping. Depending on your background, those definitions may be different. From my background in the dunking world and high jump, the two are usually differentiated by the heel recovery. But someone like @juanmiguelechevarria01 is widely considered a power jumper despite his speed jumper-like heel recovery. To combat this, I thought of differentiating the power jumpers into “true” (low heel recovery) and “false” high heel recovery. One thing to note is that true power jumpers in the context of long jump are extremely rare, which is why power jumpers often take on a different definition in long jump. But because long jump is so dependent on horizontal velocity, being a true power jumper can work against you, as more time on the ground (which is usually the result of power jumping) can deplete your speed more than you want it to. The big takeaway is that people have jumped very far with each of these archetypes, and knowing which one you are can allow you to make training more catered to that type of jumper. #trackandfield #jumpers #longjump #sprint #biomechanics
