Unfortunately it's only available in German, it was a series on the German channel ZDF called "the truth behind our fairy tales" the flute player of Hamelin was one of the fairy tales covered and according to the German historians the dance plague is not the basis of the whole thing. It was plague time hence the story with the rats and mice. At the same time, however, there were also so-called "Landwerber". They promised the poor farmers land and a livelihood in Eastern Europe. Fun theories but if it happened in 1284 then it’s about 60 years to early for the Black Death or the dancing plague, they both started in the mid 14th century (1300s)
