TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Two parents are accused of leaving their four children, including an infant, in a vehicle during a trip to a Tyler Walmart Monday. The parents, David Alan Bearden, 28, and Emily Kay Bearden, 27, both of Arp, were arrested and now each face four counts of endangering a child. Watch East Texas News at 5. Tyler Police Department spokesperson Andy Erbaugh said the youngest child was only five weeks old, and was left along with a two, five, and 10-year-old. Erbaugh said one of the children got out of the car around 5 p.m. and got a Walmart employee to help and call police. Erbaugh said the 10-year-old sought the help after the 5-year-old accidently turned off the car. Erbaugh said officers arrived quickly to the Walmart Supercenter on the 6800 of South Broadway Avenue to find the parents were leaving the parking lot after an hour and a half of shopping. “Checked on the kids- they all appeared sweating and red in the face and a little disheveled. So, what we would say is it was hot,” Erbaugh said. “Apparently, one of the kids had turned the car off while the parents were in the store for at least an hour, and they didn’t know how to get the car back on.” Both parents were arrested. Erbaugh said it is a state jail felony to leave any child under the age of 14 in the car. “When they’re in a car by themselves, they get scared. They don’t know what’s going on,” Erbaugh said. “We don’t know if somebody’s going to try to take advantage of those children in that car. We don’t know if the kids are going to get out on their own in that car, or they’re going to start wandering looking for their parents in that car. So, it doesn’t matter the car running or not. If you leave your child in a place where they could be imminently injured, it’s a state jail felony and you will go to jail for it.” Erbaugh said the outside temperature was between 95 to 97 degrees, estimating the car’s temperature to be able to reach over 100 degrees. First Weather Alert Meteorologist Andrew Tate says the longer someone stays in a vehicle in the heat the more dangerous it gets. #donyyyaaa___news #explorepage
