@yojimd: MDMA (3,4-MethyleneDioxyMethamphetamine) has the potential to revolutionize psychiatry, particularly in treating #PTSD By stimulating the release of 3 key neurochemicals — #serotonin #dopamine and #oxytocin — MDMA enhances feelings of connectivity, empathy, and trust, which can be particularly beneficial for trauma patients. In the most recent trial, approximately 71% of participants showed such significant improvement that they no longer met the criteria for a PTSD diagnosis! However, the FDA advisory panel voted 10:1 against approval, citing that the benefits did not outweigh the risks. These risks include: • elevated blood pressure • increased heart rate • muscle tightness • sweats • decreased appetite • boundary violations, as seen in this video. It's worth noting that the FDA has a known history of approving drugs that are far more toxic (and even FATAL) making the ethical concerns a significant factor in the panel's decision. Now I’m not saying that MDMA is nutritious by any stretch, but considering that 5% of the U.S. population suffers from PTSD (many of whom are treatment resistant) I believe severe PTSD patients should have the right to try it under clinical supervision.
