BYU sport interactions prompted it, this church spoke against the civil rights movement. Their founder had a back woman sealed (which is how ppl normally get married) as a slave to him for forever.

As a teenager I found this out asked a leader to explain. They told tell me the church leaders did this so the church could survive and were protecting the black members.
