I’m from the US and I agree it’s definitely a cultural issue and has to do with the different perspectives of what is feminine and masculine. Personally, I don’t like to assume.

I don't really assume. some I wonder though but it's not any of my business to possibly out them if they are. 😅

I don’t think it’s done maliciously or with intention to cause harm people just view all celebs as figureheads of their enjoyment, fantasy, desires (musical/entertainment not just sexual) not real

Never judge a book by its cover I have meet straight men who are on the softer side and it’s just who they are vs verse with woman just get to know an individual as is

I don't assume anything about idols. They have to straight out say what they prefer for me to know. I also don't expect them to share political or religious views. It's none of our business.

I definitely believe because of the country beliefs is why people will assume idols are gay/les/bi but that’s still not right to put a label on people sexualities when you don’t know them I wish they

Hmm. Korea seems to assume that Kpop idols are not gay when I'm sure there must be a percentage of them who are?

Finally, someone else said it. Someone in my life keeps automatically assuming that specifically 5/7 Bts members/other male Kpop idols are gay, along with believing misinformation about them

Thank you for this. I think that toxic western masculinity is to blame. They cannot understand that there can be a soft side to men and vice versa. It does not define sexually.

Clearly statistically there will be some gay kpop idols but to base this on visuals is naive just because young men exhibit what is perceived to some western eyes as feminine

Totally agree, it’s bizarre! The shipping of same sex idols is so weird too, like what are you doing? 👀

I believe it's a difference in culture. In TX, wearing makeup is only for girls and gay men, it is kind of an assumption. I made that assumption at first until I learned more about Korean culture

I know its not unusual for men to hold hands. Also the standards of beauty for men. But other differences would be appreciated if there is more you can share for enlightenment. 💕

Assuming someone’s gay is wrong but statistics show 1/5 people are LGBT higher in arts so assuming they are all straight is statistically incorrect regardless of interpretation of masculine/ feminine

I don't think it was because of the look. It is because of the fan service they have to perform for the sake of their company.

And please don’t forget the crazy ‘shipping’ of male idols together by taking clips of videos out of context. Drives me crazy. These poor people

think about this then, ppl assume you're straight from the get go which is also about assumptions, I don't think assuming someone's sexuality is okay but the world always assume heterosexuality

what I don't understand is why anyone cares. if they're gay, cool, if their straight, cool. why is it anyone's business who/if they date. as long as they are happy it's all good

I think because Asian males don't have an issue with being "close" with male friends without sex being involved. In America that would be considered gay to most people. Unfortunate reality

Tbh, it’s because a lot of international fans are part of the “alphabet family” and they’re desperate to see their faves be as themselves. Fact is at least 80% of people are heterosexual, if not more.

I have two things to say. For what I've heard from people from Korea, femenine men aren't viewed in a good way, for example, there is the recent case of the genshin character (Lyney) that only in the+

I agree! As a queer kpop fan i can tell that (most) of the other queer fans usually mean it in as a joke in the sense that we’re not saying anyone is gay or anything like seriously. but there’s 100%+
