A few years ago someone asked whether we sell more XXS items or 10XL and the discussion we had made me think about the fact that our small sizes have never sold well and I had two sad realisations. Firstly, after chatting to our community I realised that many people did not register out small sized models as thin because we work with "normal" people and not professional models. And in spite of our models being S and XS, just because they also aren't super tall and look dramatically skinny, many people did not register them as small sized because we did receive messages saying "it's difficult to imagine what x item would look on me if it's photographed on a plus size model". But for every collection we photograph every design on a small size and a bigger size precisely so everyone can see someone like themselves represented. It's funny and sad how the fashion industry has warped what we see as thin. And the sadder realisation that I had a hunch about for a while, but then found research to back it, is that thin people simply do not want to shop from brands or stores that also make clothes in big sizes. They do not want to see the same clothes they have on a bigger body. That is why most brands only carry their bigger sizes online, never in store, why the "plus size line" is a thing that's entirely separate from their main collection, to put as much space in between us fat people and the rest as possible, so as not to alienate the thin people that want the exclusivity. I hope in time this will change. But even if it doesn't, we'll continue to proudly cater to EVERYBODY, to showcase all kind of bodies in our clothes, to stock everything in every size - because everybody deserves clothing that makes them feel powerful, beautiful and seen 🤍 #sustainablefashion #plussizefashion #cottagecore
