@atouchofgrace.diy: Okay let me clarify… Swollen pressed wood caused by water damaged can be repaired on furniture. For this specific piece, the pressed wood that was sandwiched between veneer sheets became swollen with moisture and expanded. I used to stay away from these free pieces because I thought any dresser with water damage was ruined for good… which is not always true. When it comes to pressed wood, you are able to chisel the swelled areas out. Yes, this leaves you with a gaping hole but the main thing you need to do is to dig away at it like a dentist at a cavity. Once all the water damage was out, I noticed the veneer stayed in the swollen shape. To experiment, I coated the interior area where the pressed wood was with wood glue (didn’t fill it just basically painted it). Then, I clamped the top and bottom veneer into the original width in hopes that as the wood glue dried, the veneer would hold its place. AND IT DID 🙌🏼 Since the interior pressed wood was gone, I filled the area with Bondo’s Wood Filler and sanded smooth to repair fully. This worked so much better & faster than replacing the entire top!
