In my country it’s opposite, you’re shamed if you drive a walkable distance 😅😅

I looked at the map and made the same assumption that there'll be a nice route through the cemetery.

Can’t really get my head around not being able to walk in my local area. Feels claustrophobic.

Happened to me too, visited Pittsburgh as an European, walked somewhere and realized halfway there I wasn't supposed to walk here when the sidewalk suddenly disappeared.

This is why people love Disney. Public transportation and walkable “cities” (parks)

i walk up to the dollar general, which is less than a mile away, and there is not a single sidealk so I have to walk on the shoulder of the road and part of the way is up a hill and ppl like to speed

as a Canadian, when I saw the map I assumed I'd be able to walk through the park (cemetery) too!

20 minute walk somewhere locally: never. 45 minute walk somewhere when I'm visiting NYC? sounds delightful.

I had that exact experience once. Google even recommended cutting through the cemetery. Only to find a locked gate, 1pm on a Friday.

They finally put sidewalks near me. I biked through so much traffic heavy with sidewalks that just ended.

yes! this is part of why i hate living in areas where there’s less foot traffic, it’s scary to be alone on the street sometimes

This is eye opening. I’m European (Swedish). In an FB group about travelling people are constantly asking “Is it safe?” It’s confusing to me but I understand now where they’re coming from.

Contemplating moving to the US with my American wife this is such a big deal for me. Please make a series of the most walkable places in the US 🙏🏻

The locked gate thing is frustrating. I look up a playground it’s at an elementary school- gates always locked.

Stayed in Dallas for a conference which was a mile from where I was staying, so being European I walked. 6 cars stopped along my route to ask had I broken down and needed a ride!

I did this when I visited Austin. Freeways made it a prison if you wanted to walk anywhere.

Just happened to me today! 27 minute walk to an estate sale led me through a watershed runoff so I had to walk alongside a major road in the curb!
