@missclairebenjamin: 🚨 Handling being taken advantage of👇 Being reliable and hard working are both great traits. Sometimes though if we don’t know how to assert ourselves we can find ourselves in a situation where we feel taken advantage of. So we must learn how to communicate our limits and boundaries to people. If we haven’t told someone our limits they cannot know what they are. If you’re a reliable, hardworking and trustworthy person although it’s not necessarily fair, it makes sense why your manager would want to give you all the work especially if you haven’t highlighted your concerns. Therefore it’s important to let them know your limits and needs directly and respectfully. Here are 3 steps I would recommend: 1️⃣ Let them know it’s uncomfortable for you raising it as you are naturally a hard worker and want to support. This signals to them that you wouldn’t be raising it without good reason. 2️⃣ Communicate your limits and why by sharing the potential consequences. For example: “I’ve been really happy to put in these extra hours over the last few months due to XYZ. I cannot maintain the hours I’m currently working though, if I do I’m going to make mistakes and burnout completely which isn’t good for anyone” 3️⃣ Share clearly what you need to change. For example: “I need us to have a conversation about how to start spreading the workload more evenly across the team and upskilling people?” 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised and will not fit every situation. You know your situation better than anyone else so please use your own judgement. 💬 Have you ever been in this situation on either side? Share your experiences in the comments 👀 💾 Save this for when you might need it ✈️ Share with someone who this could help 🚀 Follow for more tips on handling tricky situations at work #worktips #leadershipdevelopment #corporatelife #emotionalintelligence #manager #difficultconversations #assertivecommunication #communicationskills #boundaries

I've said those exact words to past managers. they didn't care and they didn't give me any help or change anything. they just kept giving me more work. I ended up walking out.

What about the workers who insist on working overtime, when it wasn’t asked, and then complain about it? I think they feel like it keeps their job secure to stay stressed all the time. 1/2

I did this. It was never rewarded, I got dumped new responsibilities and got majorly burned out. I now clock in and out exactly when I am scheduled and don’t answer outside of work.

Do you have any tips for how to deal with a manager who always says it’s a bad time when requesting time off. I always end up feeling bad and taking less days than initially requested
