The only way I understand this is if the owner got like dementia and other family was not able to care for a pet so they thought this was the best option for them to have a decent life.

I don’t care how hard life gets my dogs ain’t going nowhere, I was ill and on bed rest after surgery. My boy refused to leave my side and wouldn’t eat or go toilet bc he knew I wasn’t okay.
