The radiator rapidly cools the hot coolant by transferring heat to colder external air flowing through the radiator fins. The cooled fluid then exits the bottom of the radiator and cycles back through the engine block. A car radiator cools the engine by circulating coolant through the engine block and absorbing heat before passing the heated coolant through the radiator where it loses heat to the air.
