I think shallow shelves could work! Or maybe even some kind of base with a drawer that is deeper, with the shallow shelves on top

Build the bookshelves with legs like a dresser would have. That way you still get airflow

Hear me out… try to move the vent? 🫢 we moved the vents in our bathrooms and it wasn’t that crazy hard. Annnnnnd no need to match the floor where the vent was bc you’ll have a beautiful built in 😍

I think v large + medium plants on left, fun new lamp on vent side maybe a hanging plant also … also like the idea of building out the top for wrap around shelves if not too bulky.

Maybe a bigger cabinet beneath the window that goes to the length of the fireplace and then shallow shelves above

what if you put it on an angle? the inside corner could be flush with the fireplace and then just make it a diagonal to the corner of the wall. so like a triangular shelf?

Two console table style 10” width built ins. You can add a shelf to the console for storage. I store ottomans under mine and books/decor on top. Paint the fireplace.

Strip the the white paint on the bricks or paint them a dark dramatic color. Lose the mirror. Hang an art piece that sits higher than the windows to raise the ceilings. Chair on one side and small

What if…instead of chairs, have floating reading nooks on either side. For the open space beside the chimney and above the windows have some floating shelves for books and decor.

Instead of cases do shelves on both sides. I also think it would actually be better if they’re not flush with the fireplace so just making them as deep as the side window allows is perf I think!

Do the bookcase with the 10 inches and then a reading nook/bench that matches the depth of the fireplace and all looks built in. Hope that makes sense!!
